i was filling out stella’s kindergarten application today, and it struck me what a major change next year will be for mr maxey. for the past 6 years his days have been filled with car seats and peanut butter sandwiches and nap time (for the girls, not him … or so he says!). in between sippy cups and if you give a pig a pancake and all of that mr mom stuff he’s also juggling writing and all of that basketball stuff. i always joke that mr maxey has a good life, indeed! but i’m keenly aware that he is the oil that keeps the maxey engine running so smoothly.

next year our bitty is starting school. and as much as i’m sure there will be a sense of relief for wen to not have to squeeze the work stuff into tiny little pockets of the day, i’m also quite certain that there will be a 6’3″ puddle of sadness as she walks into school that first day. these two are connected at the hip. peas and carrots. chips and dip. mork and mindy. they’re, quite simply, adorable.

whereas piper is 6 going on 16 (truly. i’m frightened), stella jane is 3 going on 6 months. she is our baby, and GOOD LORD IS SHE. she’s perfected her role of the littlest of the family, and wen & i have fallen willingly into her chubby little hands.

i love with every ounce of me watching them together. i’m so grateful that bitty (and piper) will grow up knowing what real love looks like, feels like.
