the next chapter.

A few months ago I was having dinner with a dear friend, and I mentioned to her that I was feeling a little restless. A sense of ennui (I love that word – “boredom” en francais!). I was supposed to have traveled to Europe in 2010, but the trip was ultimately cancelled due to that crazy Icelandic volcano. I mentioned that I wondered if it was some unresolved travel bug within me that was making me feel so antsy. I was also growing tired of the constant rain, the isolation of working from home, and just the normal day-to-day. “I need an adventure!” I said.

Just a few weeks later I received THE email – the one that started this whole journey of us ultimately packing up our life in PDX, and moving our little family of four to Nuremberg, Germany. We leave in 3 days. GULP.

The house is packed. There are boxes everywhere. The movers come tomorrow to load everything into a container which will travel across the US, the Atlantic, and through Europe until it ends up at our new home in Nuremberg. It’s crazy to look at all of these boxes, filled with our towels and clothes and mixing bowls, and imagine unpacking them in a little apartment on the other side of the world.

When I’ve shared this story with people over the past few weeks, starting w the “I need an adventure!” statement, a few have said, “Be careful what you wish for!” I actually feel so differently – DON’T be careful what you wish for. Wish BIG. Pray BIG. You never know what the next chapter may hold.

So here we go. We’re excited & terrified & anxious & hopeful that this move will be an amazing journey for our family. Auf Wiedersehen, Portland. Don’t worry – we’ll be back.

Nana - I can’t believe that it is time for you to leave. Poor little Stella, how is she doing? I know this is an amazing opportunity, but it leaves me with no munchkins to spoil and no Emily and Wendell to share appetizers with at the holidays.
I will come by Saturday for love. Holly/NanaReplyCancel
