we tiptoed out of the apartment, as quietly one can with an energetic 2 year-old and 4-year old in tow. husband was finally getting the long overdue chance to sleep in, so the maxey girls snuck out for a coffee date.
the morning welcomed us with a shocking chill. nuremberg seems to have missed the “it’s fall!” memo and dove headfirst into winter. if this is any indication of the next 4 months, we better bundle up.
there’s a new coffee shop in our ‘hood – it quickly became our favorite hangout. lattes for mama, smoothies for the chicklets, croissants for wen. nuremberg hasn’t yet fully embraced the whole coffee shop concept, so we feel uber blessed to have this little gem right down the block.
in spite of the cold, we took our time on the walk over. we kicked leaves, we held hands, we marveled at the fog our breath created in the freezing air.
and when we finally arrived, we tucked ourselves into a corner table and talked about nothing and ate huge bites of bagel with jelly and giggled at bitty singing. i’m sure i said, “stella, sit down!” and “piper, use your napkin!” a million times, but right now i’m sporting my sassy rose-colored glasses and remembering only the yummy bits.
these two girls. i hope i pray i wish that we will always have these moments – these little nothings that are insignificant other than the fact that it is us, our family, our laughter, our stories. these two fill me up.
Holly - Would you please keep the girls from growing up without me? !
I am on a leave of absence from the hospital following a less than wonderful time with my “least” favorite nurse issue. My choice and I am loving the time to myself. xoxo Nana. Need anything “oregon”?
